Chapter One:

4 step method
1 Write infromation about instructions
2 Make a plan
3 Do the work
4 Explain
Marcus, John, Mckenna, and Megan have favorite foods: Pizza, ice cream, mac and cheese, and candy corn. Marcus is lactose and tollerent. Mckenna likes . John doesn't enjoy candy corn. What is Megan's favorite food?

Frequency table- a table that organizes data into intervals
Histogram- a graph where data is broken into intervals

Numerical Expression- a mathmatical statement using numbers and operations
Order of operations- What order to do the problem in when more than one operation is used

5* (18-2) + (14+4) / 6+3-2*4+9

Algebra- the area of math where we use letters
Variable- a letter that takes the place of a number
a-6=16 a=22
Variable Expression- an expression with variables, numbers, and at least one operation
Exponent- how many bases to multiply by
Base-the number being multiplied by
Power-when a product is written with a base and
Squared-a base with an exponent of two
Cubed-a base with an exponent of three
Equation a math sentence with an equal sign
solving an equation
read and understand
make a plan
look back
soulotion- the answer that makes an equation true
Write an equation and solve it
formula-an equationwith two or more related quanties
preimeter- the length around an object
area- the space inside an object

Chapter Two:

Intergers- all the positive and negitive whole numbers and zero

Absolute Value-the distance from zero on a number line
Coorindate System- used to graph
*made up of two intersecting lines
ex. battle ship
X-axis- horizontal number line
Y-axis- vertical number line
Origin-where the number lines cross
Quadrant-four sictions of the coordinate system
*labled with Roman Numerals
Ordered Pair- pair of numbers that tell where to graph the numbers
ex. (2,4)
X-coordinate- where to go on x-axis
Y-coordinate- where to go on the y-axis
List the 8 rules for interger operations
1. the sum of two positive intergersw will always be positive. To get the answer add
2. The sum of two negative intergers wil always be negitive. To get the answer add
3. The sum of two integers with different signs will have the sign of the larger number. To get the answer subtact.
4. To subtract two integers, change the subtraction to addition and change the sign of the second nember to its opposite.( add a line, change the sign )
5. The product of two integers with the same sign will always be positive. To get the answer multiply.
6. The product of two integers with diffrent signs will always be negative. To get the answer multiply.
7. The quotient of two integers with differet signs will always be positive. To get the answer divide.
8. The quotient of two integers with different signs will always be negitive. To get the answer divide.
Do these problems
Mean- average, you add up all the numbers and divide by how many numbers you added together
Commutative property-you can add or multiply the numbers together in any order.
associative property- any way you group them, you will get the same answer every time
Identity- where you can add zero to any number and it won't change or multiply by one and the number will stay the same
Multiplicative Inverse(Reciprocal)-Is where you switch the fraction to make it the opposite or upside down
Distributive Property- where you can multiply the number outside the parenthesis with each individual number in the parenthesis

range- add the biggest by the smallest in a set of dat
median- middle of a set of numbers
mean-average of a set of numbers
mode-the number that appears the most in a set of numbers
stem and leaf plot-a method for showing the frequency with which certain classes of values occur
box-and-whisker plot-used to display a set of data so that you can easily see where most of the numbers are
lower quatertile-a median that divides the set by %25
upper quatertile-a median that divides the set by %25
lower extreme-lowest number
upper extreme-highest number
circle graph- a graph that stores data in a circle
line graph- a graph that shows data over time
tree diagram- a table that shows the different possibilities
fundamental counting Principal-This principle states that "If there are r ways to do one thing, and s ways to do another, and t ways to do a third thing, and so on ...,
Unfavorable outcome-outcome you dont want to happen
Odds-outcome of a problem
Probability-the odds of an event
Independent events-an event that does not bother the next event
Dependent events- an event that does bother the next event

Use the following set of data to make a stem and leaf plot or box- whisker plot. Also find the range, mean, median, and mode.

if Sally has 8 shirts, 4 pairs of jeans, and 3 pairs of shoes, use either a tree diagram or the fundamental counting principal to figure out how many different outfits she can make. Then find the probability that she wears her green shirt, dark jeanns, and brown shoes.
