Robert Hooke’s first experiment- discovered cells by a oak cork to find cells

Anton van Leeuwenhoek- used pond water and teeth scrapings to find cells
What is a cell? the basic unit of sll living things
Cell theory- all three parts 1-all living things are composed of cells
2-cells are the basic unit of structure in living things
3-all cells are produced from other cells

Magnification- the ability to make thing look larger than they are
Resolution- the ability to clearly distinguish the individual parts of an object
What are the two things a plant cell has that an animal cell does not?- cell wall and chloroplasts
Selectively permeable-some substances can pass through while others cannot
Diffusion- the process by which molecules tend to move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
Osmosis- the diffusion of water molecules
Passive transport- the movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy
Active transport- the movement of materials through a cell membrane using energy
Transport protein-protiens in acell pick up molecules outside the cell and carry them in using energy in the process
Engulfing- another method is the cell membrane engulfs the particle once engulfed the cell membrane pinches off and forms a vacuole
Respiration- the process by which cells break down simple food molecules to release the energy they contain
Photosynthesis- the process in which plants make their own food
